The Golden Age of Grotesque is a bold and expressive painting by Michał Wręga (SEPE), created for the artist’s first solo exhibition abroad at Alkin Gallery in London. In this work, SEPE uses the metaphor of a circus to comment on the absurdities and contradictions of modern reality. Vivid colors, dynamic composition, and theatrical figures draw the eye, while the deeper narrative unfolds through layers of symbolism and texture. As the artist himself says, “The painting starts to speak” — revealing a story hidden in brushstrokes, gestures, and abstraction.
This artwork is now available as a limited edition fine art print, produced using giclée technique on museum-quality Hahnemühle William Turner cotton paper. Each print is hand-numbered and signed by the artist. Choose your preferred format and framing option — worldwide shipping available.
Artist:
Michał Wręga (SEPE) is one of the most intriguing contemporary painters and street artists in Poland. Originally from Warsaw—where he currently lives and works—his artistic journey began with graffiti. Over time, his fascination with urban space extended to the canvas as well. Today, SEPE works simultaneously as a muralist and studio painter, gaining significant recognition in both realms.
In SEPE’s paintings, realism meets theatricality, and the protagonists are people—imperfect, pensive, sometimes lost, but always genuine. His work is known for its strong expression, symbolic details, rich color palette, and intriguing textures. The artist treats painting as a kind of visual diary, capturing observations and emotions—sometimes with bitter commentary, irony, or quiet reflection. He creates independently, with a deep commitment to authenticity and quality. His art speaks in its own language—one of honesty, emotion, and layered meaning.
