Title: “1920 – Fields of Usonia”
Creation date: 2021
Technique: Digital painting
Summer, golden fields, the hard work of human hands—everything looks familiar, almost idyllic… until you glance at the horizon. There, among the haystacks and American farmers, massive dieselpunk machines march forward. This is the world of 1920+ – a reality where history and fantasy intertwine, creating a fascinating vision of an alternative past.
Jakub Różalski masterfully blends symbols of the American spirit — jeans, bandanas, traditional farms — with mechanical colossi towering over the landscape like modern gods of war. Is this the everyday life of a new era? Or merely the calm before the storm?
This artwork was created for the game Iron Harvest, illustrating a new chapter in the history of Usonia — an alternative version of the United States in the world of 1920+. It captivates, inspires, and compels you to pause and wonder: what if…?
Artist:
Jakub Różalski, known for creating works that balance on the edge of history and fantasy, draws inspiration from Polish folklore and his fascination with alternative history. His art blends realistic landscapes with elements of science fiction and dark fantasy, crafting unique, melancholic worlds where technology meets tradition. Różalski takes particular pride in the fact that his digital paintings are nearly indistinguishable from traditional works: “Many people don’t see the difference, so I think I’ve succeeded, and that makes me very happy,” says the artist.
His work stands out not only for its rich details but also for its ability to create an atmosphere that transports the viewer to other, unseen dimensions. In his paintings, the everyday life of the Polish countryside collides with futuristic machines, while figures from the past step into worlds filled with technological innovations. As a result, his artworks offer more than just aesthetic value — they become narratives of an alternative reality, drawing the audience in and sparking deep reflection.
